Cork International Hotel Review – Runway Views and Family Fun

Cork International Hotel Review – flights, food, and fun.

Disclaimer: This was a press stay. I did not have to pay for accommodation or food. However, this account of my experience is honest, and my opinions are my own.

Today, I am reviewing a great hotel in Cork, where luxury meets convenience and where you can enjoy the best of modern comfort while being just a stone’s throw away from the hustle and bustle of Cork Airport. I’m talking about the Cork International Hotel. Whether you’re travelling for business, leisure, or even a bit of both, this hotel has something for everyone.

Cork International Hotel Review

Now, let’s talk about one of the most unique aspects of this hotel – the views. Cork International Hotel is perched right by Cork Airport, and let me tell you, the sight of planes taking off and landing from the comfort of your room is quite extraordinary. For aviation enthusiasts, it’s like having a front-row seat to a continuous air show. But even if planes aren’t your thing, there’s something incredibly soothing about watching them fly in and out, especially when the sun sets over the horizon, casting a golden hue over the runway.

Style and Vibe

But the views are just the beginning. The style and vibe of Cork International Hotel sets the tone for your stay from the moment you step through the doors. This hotel is the perfect blend of modern elegance and thoughtful design, with every detail carefully curated to enhance your experience.

One of the first things you’ll notice is the abundance of natural light that floods the space. The large windows throughout the hotel invite the outside in, creating a bright, airy atmosphere that instantly makes you feel at ease. These windows aren’t just for show either – they offer stunning views of the surrounding area, especially the airport runway, giving you a unique perspective that’s both dynamic and tranquil.

The interior design is all about comfort and style. Plush carpets add a soft touch underfoot, while equally plush curtains drape elegantly over the windows, giving each room a warm and inviting feel. The decor throughout the hotel is a nod to aviation, a fitting tribute considering its location. You’ll find carefully placed artefacts and art pieces that subtly celebrate the world of flight, from vintage propellers to sleek, modern aircraft models. It’s a theme that’s present without being overwhelming, adding a layer of character and charm to the space.

Relaxation

And when it comes to relaxation, the hotel truly excels. Plenty of comfy sofas are scattered around, perfect for lounging with a good book or just unwinding after a long day of travel. The lobby is particularly inviting, with its stylish yet cosy seating areas and even a grand piano, which often fills the space with soft, melodic tunes, adding to the overall ambience. It’s the kind of place where you could easily spend a few hours just soaking in the atmosphere.

The outdoor terrace is a must-visit for those who prefer a breath of fresh air. It’s an ideal spot to sip a coffee, chat with friends, or simply watch the planes take off and land. There’s something undeniably captivating about sitting out there, feeling the breeze, and seeing the world in motion right before your eyes. It’s a peaceful yet exciting experience all at once.

The Rooms

As for the rooms, I stayed in a ludicrously capacious suite, to borrow a phrase from Succession. Whether you’re here for a quick stopover or an extended stay, these rooms are designed with the traveller in mind. Think of it as your home away from home but with all the luxury and none of the chores. Plush bedding, modern furnishings, and a layout that gives you room to breathe – these suites are the epitome of comfort. And if you’re here on business, you’ll appreciate the ample desk space and high-speed Wi-Fi, perfect for getting some work done without feeling cramped.

If you are with a family, you will appreciate the kitchen area with a kettle, Nespresso machine, air fryer, microwave, sink, dishwasher, and everything you might need to prepare a light meal or snacks. My suite also had two bathrooms, a dining table, a sitting room, and other seating/lounge areas in the bedroom. I was running around it like I was Kevin from Home Alone. I do get giddy in nice hotel rooms.

Dinner

Now, let’s talk about something that will really get your taste buds tingling—the food. Cork International Hotel doesn’t just serve meals; they serve experiences. The culinary team here has made a conscious effort to focus on the provenance of ingredients, which means you’re getting the freshest, highest-quality produce sourced locally whenever possible. The emphasis on local suppliers supports the community and ensures that the flavours are authentically Irish with a contemporary twist.

Their steak, sourced from local farms, is a must-try. Cooked to perfection and served with a rich, velvety sauce, it’s clear that the kitchen here knows its stuff.

And for environmentally conscious people, you’ll love this – the hotel features some fantastic zero-waste menu items. That’s right, the chefs here are all about sustainability, crafting dishes that are delicious and mindful of our planet. This kind of forward-thinking approach sets Cork International Hotel apart from the rest. You can enjoy your meal knowing that it’s been prepared with care for you and the environment.

Breakfast

Let’s not forget one of the highlights of any hotel stay – the breakfast. At Cork International Hotel, they’ve outdone themselves with the breakfast buffet at the light-filled Atlantic Restaurant. Walking in, you’re greeted by a warm, inviting space bathed in natural light, making it the perfect place to start your day.

The buffet is impressive, offering various options to suit every palate. Whether you’re in the mood for something hearty or prefer a lighter start to your morning, you’ll find everything you need here. The selection is vast, from freshly baked pastries and bread to various cereals, yoghurts, and fresh fruits. There’s even a dedicated gluten-free station, ensuring that everyone can enjoy a delicious and satisfying breakfast regardless of dietary needs.

Atlantic Restaurant

The Atlantic Restaurant has thoughtfully included a kids’ corner in the buffet for families with little ones. You’ll find many child-friendly options to keep even the pickiest eaters happy here. It’s a great touch that makes breakfast time a breeze for parents, allowing everyone to enjoy their meal without fuss.

But perhaps the show’s real star is the live cooking station, where you’ll find a chef ready to take your orders for eggs. Whether you like them scrambled, poached, or fried to perfection, the chef will cook them precisely to your liking. There’s something wonderfully indulgent about having your breakfast made just for you, and it adds a personal touch that elevates the whole experience.

Facilities and Amenities

Now, let’s talk about the fantastic range of facilities and amenities that Cork International Hotel has to offer. This is more than just a place to sleep – it’s a place where you can truly make the most of your time, whether travelling solo, with colleagues or bringing the whole family along.

With elegant decor and a flexible layout, these rooms can be adapted to suit any theme or requirement, making them a popular choice for various events.

Whether you’re visiting for business or leisure, having a secure and easily accessible place to park makes your stay much more convenient.

Location

The hotel is also ideally situated if you want to take day trips to some of the most beautiful spots in County Cork. For example, the charming town of Cobh, famous for its maritime history and colourful waterfront, is just about a 25-minute drive away. It’s a must-visit, especially if you’re interested in the Titanic’s connection to the town or want to enjoy a picturesque coastal walk.

If you’re in the mood for something more coastal, the historic town of Kinsale is also within easy reach. Known for its gourmet food scene, stunning harbour views, and rich history, Kinsale is just a 30-minute drive from the hotel. It’s the perfect spot for a leisurely day trip, where you can explore the narrow streets, enjoy some fresh seafood, and maybe even take a boat tour around the harbour.

And of course, if you’re planning to spend time in Cork City Centre, you’ll be pleased to know that it’s only about a 10-minute drive from the hotel. Whether heading into the city for shopping, dining, or visiting the famous English Market, it’s close enough to be incredibly convenient yet far enough to offer a peaceful retreat from the city’s hustle and bustle when you return to the hotel.

Cork International Hotel Review – Pros and Cons

Pros:

  1. Unique Views and Aviation Theme: The hotel offers unique views of Cork Airport’s runway, which is perfect for aviation enthusiasts. The aviation-themed decor adds character without being overwhelming, creating a distinctive atmosphere for guests.
  2. Family-Friendly Amenities: The Cork International Hotel is great for families, with a dedicated Kids Club, a cinema, and a games area. This makes it an excellent choice for families looking for a fun and engaging stay.

Cons:

  1. Proximity to Cork Airport: While the location is convenient for travelers, being right by the airport might result in some noise from planes taking off and landing, which could be bothersome for light sleepers.
  2. Not Within Walking Distance to Cork City Centre: Despite being only a 10-minute drive away, the hotel isn’t within walking distance of Cork City Centre, which might be less convenient for guests wanting to explore the city without using a car.
